NFL 2009 Season First Quarter Report Cards – AFC

October 06, 2009 By: Eric Gargiulo Category: Miscellaneous

Peyton ManningThe 2009 NFL regular season is a quarter of the way through. After four weeks we are starting to see the Super Bowl contenders separate from the NFL pretenders. Today is report card day for the AFC. Let’s take a look at some teams on the Dean’s List and some teams who are worthy of a big fat “F” for fail.

There are several different components I take into account in grading the teams. The first is overall won/lose record. The second is quality of competition and how teams played up or down to their competition. Third, are these teams over or underachieving based on pre season projections and analysis? Fourth, I take into account coaching and how well teams have been prepared and whether any coaching decisions have won or lost games. Fifth, overall individual efforts from team players are definitely taken into consideration in both positive and negative grades. With that said, let’s hand out the NFL First Quarter Report Cards for the AFC.

Dean’s List -
Indianapolis Colts
Denver Broncos

Fantasy Football Week 2 – To Trade or Not To Trade

September 23, 2009 By: Eric Gargiulo Category: Miscellaneous

Brian Westbrook After months of meticulous preparation, you felt great about your fantasy football draft. Week 1 was a bit of a letdown but you knew you had a great team. Now, it is the day after NFL Week 2 and you are beginning to panic. Do you start working a trade or do you stick with your players? Unfortunately for some of you fantasy football players, it is time to start working the phones.

I have fantasy football to be nearly the most impossible thing to judge. People will claim to be experts, but those same experts had running backs in the top 10 that haven’t even combined for 50 yards in two weeks. There is no accounting for a bust. Yet there is a big difference between a bust and a slow starter. Don’t be confused between the two or you will be kicking yourself when your “bust” is scoring 20 points for someone else in the playoffs.

NFL Pre Season’s Fantasy Football Implications

September 07, 2009 By: Eric Gargiulo Category: Fantasy Football 2009 Season

Tom Brady There is nothing meaningless about the NFL pre season when it comes to Fantasy Football. This is a great chance to look at players coming off injury, how players look with their new teammates, and scout how rookies will fare. Here is what I took away from this past NFL pre season.

Tom Brady will be fine. Brady was the highest drafted quarterback in some fantasy leagues. Those owners who hitched their season on Brady rarely ever recovered after he went down. The big question going into this season was whether Brady would be whether Brady would be back to form or not. Most quarterbacks aren’t back to form until their second season. Tom Brady looks like an exception to the rule.
